By Air
Although we have a lot of jets fly by The ODG during the week, unfortunately none stop off at the hotel.
We have many guests join us from further a field. If you're looking to come to stay with us the most direct route would be from Manchester Airport. There are direct trains to our nearest station Windermere.
By Train
Our nearest station is Windermere. Trains from here to Oxenholme will put you on the West Coast main line and north to Scotland, south to London. There are also direct trains to Manchester Airport (please check times before travelling).
By Bus
Otherwise known locally as 'The Langdale Taxi" the bus to and from The ODG runs mostly to Ambleside but twice a day to and from Kendal passing Windermere Station. The 516 runs pretty regularly and affords you a chance to enjoy the scenery as you travel. Check out the Stagecoach website for more details. Please note, locals call the seats at the side of the pub "The Bus Stop", the bus stop is over the bridge back towards the main road. You can however find a bus time table at "The Bus Stop"... confused?
By Taxi
Although we do have a few visitors arrive and leave by taxi, we don't recommend doing this without speaking to a local taxi firm first for costs. As an example the average cost to Ambleside is around £35. For those unfortunate enough to arrive here by accident from Wasdale (yes it happens) we've seen costs well in excess of £100. If you do wish to use a local taxi service please ask at reception and we'll try to help out.
By Car
We have free, residents only parking at The ODG. There is a decent sized National Trust car park outside the pub. Although you can pay cash, The National Trust allows you to pay for your parking up to 24hrs after your visit.
To get here put LA22 9JY in your SatNav, we strongly those coming from the North of the county head for Ambleside first. Some navigation will take you via Grasmere which involves a tricky road not suitable for large vehicles, campervans and towing vehicles.
Please check the map at the bottom of this page to see where we are and get directions from your favourite internet search provider.
You can also check our Blog for up to date road news.
By Bike / Legs
We are situated bang on the Cumbria Way, so arriving by bike or on foot is easy. We are lucky enough to sit almost perfectly central in the Lake District National Park so all paths lead to Langdale.
We could go on about all the fantastic ways to get here but we'll leave it to your imagination.
For those walking you'll find us at NY 28594 06121
