Welcome to our unique Lake District Hotel in the remote and unspoilt Langdale Valley

The Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel is to be found in the magnificent setting of the Great Langdale Valley. It is the 'original' Dale Head Inn and right in the centre of the Lake District.

For 300 years the Old Hotel has offered accommodation and sustenance to weary fellwalkers and climbers in the midst of some of the highest mountains in England. However it is not only the fantastic scenery of Langdale that attracts our guests, some simply come to enjoy the comfort and traditions of a cosy get away, far away from the stresses of modern day life. Don't expect to be easy to contact – you may have to climb 1000 ft to get a mobile phone reception!

The Old Dungeon Ghyll Hikers Bar

Most guests like to call in at the Hiker's Bar first where a selection of real ales provides a just reward after a long drive or a hard day of fell and rock. Or if ale is not your tipple, there is a large selection of some of the finest Scottish Whisky’s to tackle, after you have enjoyed a traditional home cooked meal in the dining room.

The Hotel Accommodation

We have thirteen guest-bedrooms all with Tea / Coffee making facilities, some having en-suite shower facilities, every one being very different retaining original features of antique and vintage décor. There is a spacious and comfortable residents' lounge with an open log fire, where you can settle in the peaceful surroundings with not a TV in sight.

With a friendly warm welcome from the owners Neil and Jane Walmsley who have run this lovely old Lake District Hotel in a traditional way for the last 23 years. They will advise and assist in any way they can. The Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel is the perfect get-away offering a high standard at fair rates. With breathtaking views and local traditions continuing to strive, you can sit back and let the impression of remoteness make a dramatic impact.
